Showing Off Düsseldorf

After returning from Normandy, we spent the next three days wandering the streets of Düsseldorf. We checked off a few more items from our “must-see” list and gave Richard a private tour of the city.

On our first evening back, we strolled down to the Rhine. We popped open a beer at the house and walked to the brick wall, sipping our drinks and chatting like a local (we love the open container law!). We watched the sunset and the boats float by and even caught a glimpse of the green parakeets swooping through the trees on our walk home.

We wandered the city, showing off the Carlsplatz market, Gut & Gerne chocolate shop, and of course the local Altbier breweries (Richard did well remembering the coaster rule!). We indulged in chocolate frappes from Gut & Gerne one day and hot chocolate another day.

We caught the tram to Kaiserwerth on another day, checking off a visit to the old castle ruins, followed by a Polish lunch date with Jeff. We enjoyed climbing the stone steps at the castle, looking out over the Rhine and castle foundation, trying to imagine what it was like at its prime.

And finally, one rainy evening, we took a trip to the Classic Remise, a vintage car museum, and dealership. Here, we saw everything from Mercedes and BMW to Rolls-Royce, Lamborghinis and Porsche’s to Aston Martin’s… old classics to supped-up newbies!

There’s always something to explore!
