Spanish Siesta

Mercado Central de Atarazanas

We took our first adventure out of the country last weekend! We traveled to Malaga, Spain to visit our friends, enjoy the sun and deepen our appreciation for the Spanish culture. We indulged in tapas, sangria, paella, jamón (fancy ham), fresh fruit and sea food. We caught the early 5:50am budget-friendly flight to Malaga on Friday. Jeff barely fit in the seat, but thanks to our wonderful inflatable travel pillows, we survived the flight and gratefully landed in Malaga with plenty of time to enjoy the weekend. We took a nice walk through the city, found our Air B&B and settled in. Our friends Cassie and Riley met us at the flat and shortly after our adventures began. The boys stayed at the Air B&B and worked while Cassie and I took a stroll around the town and picked up a few goodies at the Mercado Central de Atarazanas (food market). Later that afternoon, we walked down to the harbor and enjoyed a spectacular sunset followed by a tasty dinner and drinks at a rooftop bar.

While visiting Spain, we learned that their schedule is a little different from ours... dinner starts around 8pm and the festivities don't end until the next morning, meaning people don't go home until 7am the next day. Ay ay ay! We did our best embracing the culture and stayed out until our eyelids wouldn't stay open any longer.

On Saturday, we started our adventures by touring the Malaga Cathedral and the Alcazaba of Malaga (a fortress palace). We had lunch on the beach and fully emerged in the Spanish culture by enjoying a siesta in the sand while soaking up some vitamin D. We continued our adventures that evening by enjoying drinks at The Smallest Irish Pub in the World and later testing our dance skills at a disco techa (which OPENED at 2am... They like their late nights!).

It was a quick trip jam packed with fun and we're so grateful we were able to spend some time in Spain with good friends. Next stop... Prague!
